Daily Log
Spiel of the Day
Every day, five hundred words or more. No topic off limits; sometimes reporting drafts, sometimes a rant about a poem, sometimes nothing but a list. The point is showing up.

Day 13
I have to stop writing these spiels so late. I'm genuinely starting at 12:24 AM, which is already 24 minutes after the deadline. To be fair, I was grinding on writing an economics piece, so I guess it's okay, but I feel I should still be able to make the deadlines I set for myself. Tomorrow, I am going to try writing the spiel throughout the day, rather than all at the end (if I remember). I'm waking up rather early tomorrow to help my grandmother go to the doctor's office, so I bet I will have an extensive log if I do this properly.
Interestingly, this is the first day of Summer break (excluding my time in California) that I have not played video games (very sad, I know). I genuinely spent 2 hours working on my economics essay, making sure all the data was accurate and all the calculations were sound. Tomorrow comes a round of editing. I love to edit writing, except my own; when it's the writing of others, I enter a flow state of suggestions. However, when staring at my own writing, my mind goes blank. I'm hoping for better luck as I read what I wrote today, as this essay is very important to me.
I started watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and it's genuinely addicting (thank you, Elisa, for the recommendation). I am a fan of short, funny content that still conveys a deeper meaning (I aspire to do that when I write for the Eighth Page). Satirical writing is meant to comment on the absurdities that we overlook in our daily lives. I have to say that when I started writing for the Eighth Page, I didn't understand that at all; I wrote barely publishable articles filled with sexual innuendos. But in my later satirical writing, I think there is more meaning in what I chose to make fun of, whether it's our absurd course of study or the way we speak to each other at Andover. I believe I started developing that in the Fall Term with my long satirical essay called *Hanging Out With Friends 600*. Give it a read, if you have time.
I bought some interesting ice cream with my dad today. The flavor was sesame-lemon, topped with tahini drizzle, halva, and olive oil. While strange at first, it was pretty good, and I would definitely go back. I also bought a bar of halva, which tasted very good. I want to try more foods that are from other countries to expand my palate and learn what the whole world has to offer. I'm planning to take a Learning in The World trip next year to do just that, as well as to visit amazing countries I've never been to. I recently realized that the only European country I've been to is Italy (which makes sense because my family lives there), but I've always wanted to visit places like France, Spain, and Germany. Perhaps I can convince my dad to expand where we go next time we go to Italy.
